That is 10% higher than for the first half year of 2009 (€678 m). The result after taxes was also considerably higher: a profit of €26.5 m halfway through 2010 compared to €5.4 m at the midpoint of 2009. The balance position remains strong with a solvency of more than 52%. As a result of the growing order inflow, the number of employees has also risen: from 6,113 employees at the end of 2009 to 6,776 in mid-2010. This telescope, the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), is intended to surpass all existing telescopes. With the E-ELT the ESO hopes to obtain more information about the formation of the Milky Way galaxy, stars and dark matter. ESO want to build this telescope in the Chilean Atacama Desert at an elevation of 3060 metres. The plan calls for completion of the telescope in 2018. Stage Entertainment (category ‘large enterprise’) and Adams Musical Instruments (category SME) received the Koning Willem I Prize from His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander. The award show was held in the Royal Theatre in The Hague.
