Gradually, I was offered a number of opportunities for advancement, and I grabbed them with both hands.

On 1 January 2016, Karolina Duda (33), originally from Poland, was appointed as working forewoman for the spot welding department at VDL VDS Technische Industrie in Hapert. She started here as a temporary employee, working in production, on the rivet carousel. After a short period away from the company she returned as a spot welder. Since then, she has advanced to a position where she is forewoman and contact point for the around 30 spot and robot welders, on the shop floor.

How did you advance so rapidly within the company?

“I moved to the Netherlands in 2008 and started here at the rivet carousel. Gradually, I was offered a number of opportunities for advancement, and I grabbed them with both hands. This was partly due to the growth of the company; changes have been made to the building, and new products and machines have been added. I also like to contribute ideas to the company. My ideas in the areas of safety and LEAN working are taken seriously and put into practice, leading to a safer and more structured workplace for my colleagues.”

What challenges do you encounter as a working forewoman?

"Planning is occasionally a huge challenge. Even when workers are out sick, the customer must receive the delivery on time. When such situations arise, I try to find a solution as quickly as possible. If necessary we work overtime, and sometimes even at night and on Saturdays. The people here are always ready and willing to help. We have a good team. This is reflected in the good atmosphere. That gives me a good feeling about this company.”
