Componenta take over by VDL Groep signed

21 December 2016

The acquisition of the activities of Componenta by VDL Groep has been signed. The agreement to this end was signed today, 21 December, by both the curator and VDL Groep. Componenta is an iron and metal foundry with locations in Weert and Heerlen. The foundries will be renamed VDL Castings Heerlen and VDL Castings Weert. The acquisition will not be finalized until the German competition authority has given its approval, which is expected to happen mid-January. Initially the activities of VDL Castings will be started with about 150 employees. VDL Groep is not revealing the amounts involved in the acquisition.

Componenta's activities

Componenta makes spare parts for trucks and earthmoving and road building machines for clients that include MAN, Scania, Daimler, Caterpillar, Kawasaki, Borgwarner, Bomag and VCE. VDL is active in these markets, and the activities fit well with VDL Groep's other subcontracting activities.

President and Chairman of the Board Willem van der Leegte of VDL Groep: “We are pleased with our new colleagues and are going to invest in the relationships with our customers and in the modernization of the equipment at the foundries through automation and robotization. It is expected that our customers will start ordering again in the course of 2017, as a result of which it will be possible to rehire a significant portion of the Componenta's former employees.”
