VDL Groep takes a major step forward in the digitalisation of production and business processes for on-demand ordering of metal products. With the launch of the new platform OrderOn.com, laser cutting and bending are now within reach for the entire manufacturing industry with just a click. Flexible, clear, and customised. How much, where, and when you want.
"There is a rising demand for simplicity in the order process of quality products with timely delivery. This accelerates the growth of on-demand production in the market. Flexibility, automation, speed, and scalability are central to this," says president-director Willem van der Leegte of VDL Groep. "Our supplier VDL Technics in Boxtel is the first VDL company where our platform OrderOn.com has been integrated into the production and business process. By offering our many years of experience in laser cutting and custom bending online as well, we can simplify and speed up the ordering process. A quote is now available within a few minutes."
The new platform OrderOn.com is part of VDL Groep's broader digitisation strategy, which will also integrate the competencies of other subsidiaries of the industrial family business into one online ‘make to order’ platform for a range of metal and plastic processing techniques.
OrderOn.com makes metalworking processes easier, enabling a simple way to outsource parts of metalworking. After uploading digital work files onto the platform, an instant quote is available. Once approved, the fully automated production process begins, and the products are delivered to the specified address. To facilitate this, the laser center at VDL Technics has been expanded with new machines featuring automatic unloading modules and fully automated folding machines, allowing production to run 24/7. OrderOn.com combines VDL’s latest digital manufacturing facilities with more than 60 years of expertise, experience, and craftsmanship from the industrial family business.

Power through collaboration. That is the foundation of VDL Groep, the international industrial family business headquartered in Eindhoven. This company was founded in 1953 by Pieter van der Leegte. Initially, VDL Groep specialised in metalworking. When his son Wim van der Leegte took over the company in 1966, it became specialised in high-tech supply for sectors including the semiconductor industry, and its portfolio was expanded to include plastics processing and the development, production and sales of buses. VDL Groep is large in supplying components and semi-finished products, produces its own end products, such as suspension systems, automated systems for car factories, heat exchangers and container handling systems, and with VDL Nedcar in Born, it has the only passenger car factory in the Netherlands where series assembly takes place for third parties.
VDL Groep innovates through a combination of craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and high-quality machinery. The business group combines the strength of a multinational with the flat organisation and the open, informal working atmosphere of a family business where career progression and continuity are prioritised. Since 2016, the third generation of the Van der Leegte family has been at the helm. VDL Groep is active with over 15,000 employees in 19 countries. The group includes 105 operating companies, each with its own specialisation, which work closely together. The combined annual turnover in 2021 was €4.995 billion.
