VDL conducts thorough inspections of tens of thousands of passenger cars annually on the campus in Born. Subsequently, these vehicles are transported to dealerships. VDL Special Vehicles in Born has entered into a multi-year contract with Hödlmayr, the Austrian family business that operates one of Europe’s largest logistics networks in the automotive sector.
VDL Special Vehicles will carry out approximately 50,000 pre-delivery inspections per year for Hödlmayr on passenger cars. These comprehensive vehicle inspections include critical quality checks such as paint damage assessment, paint repairs, dent removal, and other modifications to ensure that each vehicle is delivered in perfect condition. The skills required for this seamlessly align with all aspects involved in vehicle construction.
With these pre-delivery inspections, combined with the automated assembly of battery packs, VDL is working on the transition in Born to become a comprehensive partner in sustainable mobility. Hödlmayr specialises in the entire supply chain - from receiving cars from the factory or port of entry to delivering them to the car dealer or private end customer. Customers include major European and Chinese car brands. This makes Hödlmayr one of the leading European players in the automotive industry.
“Shared values and objectives are the key ingredients for successful cooperation that adds value for our customers. We are very pleased to have a reliable partner in VDL Special Vehicles with the same mentality that emanates collaboration. We look forward to shaping the future together in the Netherlands,” emphasizes Ivan Driesen, Regional Director at Hödlmayr Logistics Netherlands & Belgium.
Director Robbert Smolders of VDL Special Vehicles: “With this order from Hödlmayr, an important step has been taken towards creating additional employment at VDL Special Vehicles and ensuring continuity at VDL in Born. By utilizing our modern production facilities and expertise, in combination with Hödlmayr's logistical specialization, we are bringing VDL Group's motto, strength through collaboration, to life.”
